Discover Lunar New Year in San Francisco! Starting on Saturday, February 10th, 2024, it’s the Year of the Dragon ?✨ This vibrant festival is celebrated in many countries in Asia including China, Japan, Korea, Philippines, Singapore, Vietnam and other regions around the world.
Immerse yourself in the festivities with dragon dances, performances, and lively events featuring music and acrobatics, culminating in a spectacular parade. To help you celebrate the Year of the Dragon, the APA Heritage Foundation has compiled an event guide for you.

Featured Activities
Chinese New Year Parade
Chinese New Year Parade started back in the 1860’s to celebrate and showcase the Chinese Culture. Named one of the top ten Parades in the world by International Festivals & Events Association, the Chinese New Year Parade in San Francisco is one of the few remaining night illuminated Parades in North America and the biggest parade celebrating the lunar new year outside of Asia. The SF Chinese New Year Parade will be held on Feb 24, 2024.
Year of the Dragon on Parade
Five Dragon Sculptures culturally painted are displayed around San Francisco from January 28 – March 2, 2024 for everyone to explore. The Dragon Statues spotlight publicly submitted artwork that reflects upon the culture, people, and traditions surrounding the Chinese New Year.
Drumbeats, Heartbeats: Communities As One
A joint celebration of Black History Month and the Lunar New Year.
Hosted at the San Francisco Main Library, this event is co-presented by the following organizations: the Friends of the Library, San Francisco Human Rights Commission, APA Heritage Foundation, Booker T. Washington Community Service Center, Office of London N. Breed, Chinese Historical Society of America, University of San Francisco and Both Sides of the Conversation.

USPS Year of the Dragon Stamp
As the auspicious Year of the Dragon begins, the U.S. Postal Service commemorates the Lunar New Year with a colorful new stamp. The stamp will become available at all post offices and online at USPS.com after Jan 25, 2024.
SF Public Library Celebrates LNY
The fun commences in early January with an array of engaging activities that spotlight the rich heritage and customs associated with the annual celebration. From educational workshops to captivating performances, the San Francisco Library invites residents and visitors alike to join in the free celebrations and embrace the spirit of the season.
Made in Chinatown Pop-up
A temporary retail space inside Chinatown’s transit station for Asian-focused artwork and snack businesses at the Chinatown Rose Pak Station 華埠白蘭站 933 Stockton Street. Now open three days a week on Wed, Thur, and Fri.

Zodiac Wall
Residents and visitors can write down their wishes for the new year in lucky red envelopes that are tiled to create a mosaic mural that resembles the character for ‘To Rise or Rising’. Chinatown wishes everyone a new year of rising together for businesses and community.

The AAPI Heritage Awards is a signature program of San Francisco’s celebration of Asian American & Pacific Islander Heritage Month. Every year the AAPI Heritage Celebration Committee honors civic organizations that have achieved significant milestones in serving the community. Our event is free and open to the public, but registration is required.
