The COVID-19 pandemic has made many of us wonder how can we live in a world of volatility, complexity, and ambiguity. The Asian Art Museum is pleased to present Zen Buddhist priest Rev. Takafumi Kawakami live from the Shunkoin Temple in Kyoto, Japan, to lead us in a practice of self-cultivation.
The practice of self-cultivation, which begins with meditation, helps us create more flexible ways of looking at the world. Removing our biases and looking at the way the world is now will give us more resilience in this time of change and uncertainty.

Acting, Healing, Learning: Artist Talk

Thursday, May 28, 2020
4:00 PM – 5:00 PM PDT
Category: Special Event

Recognizing the need to stay engaged and inspired while maintaining social distancing during the COVID-19 crisis, the Asian Art Museum is shifting its programs to online platforms. While the museum is closed, we are hosting a range of virtual public programs to both connect with our audiences and support the work of our artistic and creative communities.

Asian Art Museum’s Head of Contemporary Art Abby Chen leads a conversation with artists Jas Charanjiva, Chanel Miller, and Jenifer K Wofford, who share how the COVID-19 lockdown and the rise in anti-Asian racism have impacted their practices. They offer insights into how creativity can nurture positive social change and self-transformation.
